Biomechanics is the application of mechanical principles to biological systems. For Podiatrists biomechanics is the application of mechanics to the function of the foot and its impact on other structures. Foot function is vitally important for movement and a whole range of foot problems. An understanding of the principles of biomechanics plays a huge role in clinical decision making for a range of foot and related lower limb problems.
