Barefoot running is being promoted as a natural alternative to running shoes. On the one hand the foot needs to be protected from a harsh environment (ie the hard road, temperature extremes and injurious objects), but on the other hand the barefoot running movement promote the natural way of running and make many claims for the benefits of barefoot running.
